History
of the estate and the Branca family
The Branca family, known for their long and illustrious history,
has owned the estate for 50 years. The origins of the estate can
be traced back to a document from 1348 that cites the ancient noble
Buondelmonti family as the original Florentine owners.
In the 1950s, Pierluigi Branca acquired the hamlet comprised
of a main villa, farmhouses and about 150 hectares (375 acres)
of land, initiating its transformation into a modern and
dynamic wine and olive oil producing company.
Passion for the land and the desire to achieve a high quality
product have motivated the owners, in particular Ilaria Branca,
to select the best traditional Tuscan grapes (i.e. Sangiovese)
without excluding "exotic" varietals like Cabernet
Sauvignon and Merlot.
The long tradition of hospitality and the growing interest
in the process of wine and olive oil were both reasons to
convince the Brancas to open their doors to those who might
be interested in staying at Villa Branca.
Now people from all over the world come to experience first-hand
the beauty of this famous landscape and appreciate the fine
cellars.
