The
land
Villa Branca is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico
wine region.
The beauty of this area’s rolling terrain is known throughout
the world. It also boasts a special combination of altitude,
soil composition, and exposition to sunlight that contributes
to the singular personalities of the wines.
The vineyards alternate gracefully with a landscape characterized
by centuries-old oak forests, pine and cypress trees.
The recently restored medieval villages, renovated farmhouses,
castles, and villas that dot the hills of this area all testify
to the wealth and prestige of the families that resided here
in medieval and renaissance times, as
well as to those who have invested here in more recent times.
Today the traditional local varietal of grape called Sangiovese
(the main ingredient in the Chianti recipe) is accompanied
by Merlot, Shiraz (Syrah), Cabernet and Petit Verdot. These
newer varietals add a breath of fresh, international air while
still maintaining the perfumes and flavors of this land.
Extra Virgin Olive oil is also produced on the estate. Tradition
once dictated that this oil be preserved in large terracotta
vases, but today elegant dark bottles are preferred to safeguard
their special characteristics. Extra Virgin Olive oil from
the Chianti region is especially appreciated abroad where it
is considered one of the most important products with a “Made-In-Italy” label.
